The Exception

Supposedly, I and other Black women who are over age 21 and don’t have at least one kid are rare. That is if you believe others in the Black community (particularly a lot of Black men), and those of other races who have brought into the media stories that most Black women are babies’ mamas. Apparently, some people don’t get out much.

  1. I also fall into the catagory of not having any children and I am in my forties but, it is rare. I have also known Black men who have chosen to get a vasectomy without having any children or having at least one. That is also rare. As a single woman, it is very, very difficult to meet men (of an appropriate age) who do NOT have children.

  2. Foolishness. I HATE when people assume I have kids just because I am black. Granted it has only happened once but I find I get very defensive when people ask if I have kids since then. I love pointing out that I have no children and no desire to have any. Most times I come against shock but I love it.
